Pioneering ambient musician Brian Eno and conceptual artist Beatie Wolfe are preparing to broadcast their third collaborative album, “Liminal,” into the depths of space using a historic antenna once instrumental in proving the Big Bang theory.
The cosmic transmission, scheduled for October 15, 2025, will utilize the 50-foot Holmdel Horn antenna at Crawford Hill, New Jersey, transforming a scientific instrument into an interstellar artistic platform.
“Liminal,” characterized by the artists as “Dark Matter music,” represents the third chapter in their collaborative trilogy, following “Lateral” and “Luminal.” The album explores the threshold between song and non-song, landscape and awakening, positioning itself as a sonic journey through unfamiliar territories.
Three singles—”Ringing Ocean,” “The Last to Know,” and “Procession”—have preceded the full release, each accompanied by visual components that extend the immersive experience. The music video for “Procession” was directed by Orfeo Tagiuri and released alongside the single.
Nobel Prize-winning physicist Dr. Robert Wilson, who co-discovered cosmic microwave background radiation using the same antenna in 1964, will assist with the broadcast, creating a symbolic bridge between scientific discovery and artistic expression.
The repurposed antenna will transmit microwave frequencies capable of traveling interstellar distances, marking one of the first intentional transmissions of a complete album into space.
