Hip-hop legends Kool G Rap and Grand Puba received prestigious recognition at the 3rd Annual Hip-Hop Grandmaster Awards hosted by the Paid in Full Foundation on Saturday, May 15, 2023, at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Kool G Rap, who emerged in the mid-1980s as a member of the renowned Juice Crew, has long been celebrated for his intricate rhyme patterns and vivid storytelling abilities. Grand Puba, recognized for his distinctive flow that balances social consciousness with charismatic delivery, first gained prominence with Masters of Ceremony before becoming the frontman of Brand Nubian. The group’s critically acclaimed 1990 debut album “One for All” merged Afrocentric themes with innovative production, while Puba’s 1992 solo effort “Reel to Reel” further cemented his reputation as a versatile artist who could seamlessly blend humor, braggadocio, and knowledge. His chart-topping single “360° (What Goes Around)” demonstrated his ability to create commercially viable conscious rap while maintaining street credibility.
