After more than three years of meticulous development, Alcons Audio has officially entered the studio and critical-listening monitor market with its new M-Series, a thorough range designed to bridge the gap between reference monitoring and high-output sound reinforcement. The series comprises three models, each targeting different monitoring environments: the compact MR5 for nearfield and surround applications, the mid-sized MR10 for near to midfield monitoring, and the large-format MR12 for midfield and main monitoring duties.
Alcons Audio’s new M-Series bridges the gap between precision monitoring and powerful sound reinforcement with three purpose-designed models.
What sets the M-Series apart is its consistent voicing across all models, facilitated by identical mid/high-frequency transducers that guarantee seamless integration in multi-channel and immersive setups. At the heart of this technology is Alcons’ patented RBN202 2″ pro-ribbon driver, which handles frequencies from 1 kHz beyond 20 kHz with remarkably low distortion levels, contributing to fatigue-free listening even during extended sessions. The monitors achieve up-to-90% less distortion compared to conventional transducer technologies, setting a new standard for accuracy in studio monitoring.
The pro-ribbon driver’s exceptional 1:15 RMS-to-peak dynamic range ratio provides virtually limitless headroom, while the 5″ Active Coil™ midrange driver delivers linear response with minimal distortion. All models utilize a HempHorn waveguide designed for wide constant directivity and precise 3D imaging that audio professionals require. The system’s 120° horizontal directivity ensures a stable sweet spot for exceptional stereo imaging in critical listening environments.
In the low-frequency domain, Alcons has implemented next-generation dual-coil woofer technology alongside their innovative ScoopVent™ port system. This combination extends low-frequency response down to 25 Hz without port compression, potentially eliminating the need for additional subwoofers in many studio environments. Unlike traditional home studio setups that often struggle with accurate bass reproduction, the M-Series offers professional-grade monitoring without the space requirements of larger systems. For optimal performance, users should place the monitors away from walls to reduce reflections and maintain accurate bass response.
Rather than traditional powered monitors, the M-Series operates as “remote self-powered” systems driven by Alcons’ ALC amplified loudspeaker controllers. This approach centralizes processing and power, reduces heat build-up in the monitors themselves, and provides integrated phase processing via the VHIR™ system along with 192kHz AES3 digital inputs.
The M-Series targets high-end applications including immersive sound production, music and film mixing, broadcast control rooms, and live sound monitoring, positioning Alcons as a serious contender in the professional audio monitoring market where accuracy and reliability are paramount.
