A$AP Relli, the plaintiff in a high-profile civil lawsuit against rapper A$AP Rocky, has secured new legal representation after a period of attempting to navigate the legal system alone.
After going solo in court, A$AP Relli finally brings in new attorneys to battle A$AP Rocky in his ongoing lawsuit.
The lawsuit, originally filed in August 2022, alleges assault and battery against Rocky stemming from a November 2021 incident in Los Angeles where Relli claims Rocky fired multiple shots at him, with one bullet grazing his left hand.
The civil proceedings had been temporarily paused during Rocky’s criminal trial, which concluded in February 2025 with Rocky’s acquittal on felony assault charges. Following the criminal verdict, Relli’s original legal team withdrew from the case, leaving him to briefly represent himself in court—an endeavor described as unsuccessful in subsequent hearings.
In October 2025, Relli appeared by video conference with his newly retained attorneys, Aaron Morris and Andrew Robertson, who informed Judge William F. Fahey they are “working diligently” to prepare for the January 12, 2026 trial date.
The court has instructed both parties to pursue private mediation discussions before December 10, 2025, with the possibility of a mandatory settlement conference if these talks prove unfruitful.
Despite media reports referencing a potential $500,000 figure associated with the case, no settlement offers have been reported from either side as of October 2025. Rocky’s attorney confirmed that the plaintiff has not initiated any settlement discussions since the criminal acquittal.
Legal experts familiar with music industry disputes note that organizations like performance rights organizations often become involved in cases between artists to help manage royalty distributions when settlements affect collaborative works.
The case continues to generate significant public attention due to Rocky’s celebrity status and his relationship with singer Rihanna.
While Relli has remained active on social media, dismissing critics and emphasizing his focus on the legal process, Rocky expressed relief after his criminal acquittal, publicly thanking the court and jury.
If the case proceeds to trial, industry analysts suggest Rocky could potentially face financial impacts beyond the lawsuit itself, including effects on his sync deals with commercial brands and media companies.
If private mediation fails to produce a resolution by the December deadline, the civil trial will proceed as scheduled in January 2026, determining whether Rocky bears financial liability for the alleged 2021 shooting incident.
Rocky had previously faced a potential 24-year prison sentence in the criminal case before being found not guilty earlier this year.
In addition to the civil lawsuit against Rocky, Relli has filed a separate defamation lawsuit against both the rapper and his defense attorney Joe Tacopina over allegations of an extortion scheme.
