Celebration of HBCU culture takes center stage in the newly released “Homecoming SZN” compilation album, featuring a notable contribution from Grammy-winning artist Kendrick Lamar. The exclusive vinyl release, spearheaded by Interscope Records, showcases Lamar’s track “TV OFF” alongside works from other prominent artists in a concentrated effort to honor the legacy and influence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities across America.
Interscope’s “Homecoming SZN” album elevates HBCU heritage through Kendrick Lamar’s artistry and a stellar lineup celebrating Black collegiate culture.
The carefully curated compilation includes an impressive lineup of contemporary hip-hop talent, with GloRilla appearing on two tracks—”BOP” with Big Boogie and her solo offering “LET HER COOK.”
Additional contributions come from Rob49 with “WTHELLY,” Rae Sremmurd’s “COME GET HER,” and Schoolboy Q’s “MAN OF THE YEAR,” creating a diverse sonic landscape that reflects the vibrant spirit of HBCU culture. The project also features Schoolboy Q’s OXYMORON Picture Disc that adds visual artistry to the musical collection. Each artist contributes music that resonates with the energy and tradition of homecoming celebrations, a cornerstone of the HBCU experience.
Interscope’s initiative extends beyond mere musical offerings, providing custom vinyl artwork for each participating university. The label has partnered with Hampton University, Clark Atlanta and Alabama State University, building on previous successful collaborations.
Laura Carter, a representative from Interscope, emphasized the importance of HBCUs as “cultural bedrocks” in American society, highlighting the record label’s commitment to honoring these institutions through artistic collaboration. The year-long campaign represents a significant investment in celebrating HBCU traditions through contemporary music. Artists participating in this compilation have the opportunity to establish sync deals that could significantly boost their income through placements in HBCU-related media and events.
Available at select retailers and online platforms, the vinyl-exclusive release targets both current students and alumni, bridging generational gaps through shared cultural appreciation. Artists featured on the compilation will also be promoting their contributions through streaming platforms where fans can discover more of their music beyond the vinyl release.
The marketing strategy cleverly combines collectibility with cultural significance, appealing to fans of both HBCU heritage and contemporary hip-hop.
Looking ahead, Interscope plans to expand its HBCU partnerships with additional university collaborations and Spring 2026 activations still to be announced.
This ongoing engagement aims to preserve HBCU traditions while acknowledging their profound influence on American music and culture, creating a meaningful intersection between educational heritage and artistic expression.
