Mobb Deep Resurrects Prodigy’s Voice in Gritty Posthumous Single ‘Against The World’

prodigy s voice returns posthumously

Legendary hip-hop duo Mobb Deep has released “Against The World,” their first posthumous single featuring the late Prodigy, whose distinctive voice emerges from beyond the grave more than eight years after his 2017 death. The track serves as the lead single for their upcoming album *Infinite*, scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, under Mass Appeal Records, marking their first album since 2014.

The single opens with a distinctive chipmunk choir layered over a searching guitar riff, immediately establishing the gritty tone longtime fans will recognize. Havoc, the surviving member of Mobb Deep, produced the track with additional contributions from The Alchemist, crafting a soundscape that honors their classic East Coast aesthetic while incorporating contemporary elements.

The production features soulful horn loops and vocal samples that create a cold atmosphere characteristic of the duo’s dark, real, and unfiltered signature style.

“Against The World” showcases previously unreleased verses from Prodigy, preserved in their raw form and highlighting his sharp wit and complex rhyme schemes. Despite being recorded years ago, his lyrics maintain the distinctive style that helped establish Mobb Deep as pioneers in the genre, focusing on themes of reflection and resilience.

The single is part of Mass Appeal’s broader *Legend Has It* campaign, which will deliver seven albums from influential hip-hop artists including Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and a Nas/DJ Premier collaboration throughout 2025.

Havoc completed production on the full 15-track album in August, describing it as a “full-circle moment” for the legendary duo. The project’s release strategy explores multiple revenue streams including limited vinyl editions, merchandise collaborations, and potential sync licensing opportunities. To maximize the album’s reach, the team has launched social media advertising campaigns targeting both nostalgic fans and younger hip-hop enthusiasts. The announcement of the album came after Prodigy’s tragic passing due to sickle cell complications during a performance tour in 2017.

Early reviews have praised the track for its raw energy and seamless integration of Prodigy’s vocals, with many noting how it captures the duality of mourning his loss while celebrating his enduring presence.

Havoc will soon initiate a Canadian tour with Raekwon to further promote the project, introducing Prodigy’s preserved artistry to new generations while honoring his legacy within hip-hop culture.
