Three distinct trends are converging to propel Spain’s recorded music industry to impressive growth figures in 2025, defying the global market slowdown with a remarkable 10.4% expansion in the first half of the year. This growth stands in stark contrast to the challenges faced by music markets worldwide, positioning Spain as a uniquely resilient performer in the European music landscape.

The most striking development is the surprising revival of physical music formats, which grew by 14.8% year-over-year in the first half of 2025. Vinyl records have emerged as the standout performer, surging 25.6% and now constituting 68.8% of all physical sales revenue in Spain. The total physical market was valued at approximately €17.4 million, with vinyl sales alone accounting for around €12 million, reflecting strong demand from collectors and audiophiles seeking tangible music experiences.

Spain’s physical music revival, led by vinyl’s dramatic 25.6% surge, showcases the enduring appeal of tangible listening experiences in a digital world.

Despite physical media’s renaissance, streaming remains the dominant force in Spain’s music economy, representing an overwhelming 88.6% of total recorded music revenue. Video music streaming has been particularly robust, increasing by 38.63% in the first six months of 2025 and exceeding €22 million in revenue. Spotify and similar platforms continue to drive this digital consumption, with user penetration projected to reach 16.9% of Spain’s population by year’s end. Paid streaming subscriptions have become the industry’s backbone, generating €103.7 million in the first half of 2025.

The Spanish market’s resilience can be traced to its strong post-pandemic recovery, which began in 2021 with a 22% growth in recorded music sales. The vibrant local music scene, featuring both Spanish and Latin artists, has contributed notably to streaming growth and helped establish Spain’s distinctive position in the European market. This success is largely driven by Spanish listeners’ strong preference for Spanish-language content, with 80% of music consumed nationally being in Spanish. Spanish artists are increasingly leveraging sync deals to place their music in international films and video games, further expanding their reach and revenue potential. Many Spanish musicians have found success by utilizing playlist pitching strategies to increase their visibility on major streaming platforms.

Music festivals and live events are further stimulating interest in regional genres and overall music consumption.

Looking ahead, industry analysts project the Spanish music market to maintain a compound annual growth rate of approximately 6.6% through 2033, with total recorded music revenue estimated at around US$17.88 million for 2025. This continued expansion is expected to be fueled by both streaming growth and the enduring appeal of vinyl.
